Biography :

Biographical Sketch Gundu H. R. Rao obtained his B.Sc degree from the University of Mysore and B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc., degrees from the Poona University. He worked for a year with the Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control, Bangalore and five years at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. He immigrated to the USA in 1965 and specialized in grain storage technology and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. After working as a post-doctoral fellow at the Texas A& M University and the University of Minnesota, he joined the Department of Pharmacology as an NIH fellow to get training in toxicology. He has been with the University of Minnesota Medical School for over 40 years. He is a naturalized US citizen and a tenured professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. He also has faculty appointments in Anesthesiology, Lillehei Heart Institute, and Biomedical Engineering Institute. He is an author or co-author of over 300 publications in the field of interest (thrombosis and stroke). In the past, he has consulted various medical device development companies in the Twin Cities including 3M, Medtronic Inc, St Jude Medical, Medical CV Inc, Vascular Solutions, APP Tech, Endocardial Solutions, PlaCor Inc., Medical Innovations Inc, Hypertension Diagnostics Inc. and Boston Scientific on problems related to biocompatibility, thrombosis and stroke. He was the Visiting Professor in the Department of Surgery and Pharmacology, Kings College, in 1986 and in the Royal College of Surgeons, England in the summer of 1987, and in the Thrombosis Research Institute, London in 1988. He taught one summer at the Institute of Human Physiology, University of Padua, Padua, Italy. He also served as senior consultant to the Government of India, for three successive years (1990-93), under a United Nations program called TOKTEN. He also served as a visiting professor in the Institute of Human Physiology, University of Padua, Italy during 1995-96. He is currently listed as the Senior Fulbright Specialist. He started a society (South Asian Society on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, SASAT) to create awareness on vascular diseases in 1993. Since then he is organizing international symposiums on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis in India, every other year. Biography :

Dr. Sahasranam graduated from Madras Medical College in 1999 before training in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital. He subsequently completed his fellowship in Endocrinology and Diabetes and metabolism at Charles Drew University, Los Angeles. Finally, in 2007, he opened his own practice: Central Valley Endocrinology. and he had more than a decade of medical experience as well as board certifications in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and Internal Medicine. He teaches at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine and has often been called on to give lectures in his areas of expertise and publish articles in medical journals. In addition to CVE, Dr. Sahasranam directs the Adventist Health/Community Care Diabetes Self-Management program, which was recently recognized by the American Diabetes Association. He is an active member of the Endocrine Society and the National Lipid Association.

The National Alliance helps to lead improvements in health, wellbeing and value for our companies and communities across the country. Prior to joining the National Alliance, Mike was a Principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for 20 years. Thompson is a nationally recognized thought leader for business health strategies and health system reform. He has worked with major employers and other stakeholders on sustainable cost reduction, integrated health, wellness and consumerism, retiree health, private health exchanges and health reform. Known for developing and promoting collaborative cross-sector health industry initiatives, Mike participated on the steering board of the World Economic Forum’s “Working towards Wellness” initiative and co-founded the Private Exchange Evaluation Collaborative (PEEC). Prior to PwC, Mike served as an executive with diverse roles with Prudential Healthcare for over 17 years. Mike is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, serving on the Health Practice Council, and chairs the Medicare Sub-Committee of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA). He is also widely recognized as a leading national advocate for mental health and wellbeing and was Past President of the New York City chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). Mike previously was an active member of the board of the Northeast Business Group on Health for 11 years.

Uwe Diegel (born 1965 in New Zealand), was a concert pianist until the age of 26. Following an accident that partially restricted movement in the right arm, he started a new career in medical diagnostics, quickly developing a particular interest in chronic diseases such as hypertension, asthma, and diabetes. His intense scientific curiosity has led him not only to develop new technologies in these fields but also to interest himself to the field of medical manufacturing, industrial design and problems faced by Asian manufacturing concerns. Uwe lives in Paris, France, where he runs HealthWorks Global and does fundamental research in medical diagnostics. He is today considered to be a foremost expert in the field of blood pressure management, diabetes, asthma and in the manufacturing of medical diagnostics devices. In 2009, Uwe got interested in connected health as a means of providing better patient management. He became involved in iHealth, a platform that takes all the signals of the body and translates them into a meaningful format using smartphones and tablets. iHealth is today the world leader in the field of Connected Health. Uwe served as CEO of iHealthLabs Europe until 2016. He left iHealth in 2016 to work on the LifeInA project. Uwe Diegel has been at the forefront of international changes in healthcare technology for the last 30 years. His drive and passion for innovative technology have driven major changes in perception about healthcare. He has driven the manufacturing of medical devices to new horizons by forcing new practices in manufacturing and innovation. As Chief Quality Officer and Global Healthcare Leader, Dr. Ellahham has a focus on ensuring that that implementation of this best practices leads to breakthrough improvements in clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience and risk management. Dr. Ellahham is a recognized innovative leader in quality, safety, patient experience, risk management and the use of robust performance improvement in improving healthcare delivery. Dr. Haleama Al Sabbah is an Associate Professor and Chair of Health Sciences Department at Zayed University in Dubai. She completed her Ph.D in Public Health Nutrition (Medical Sciences) in 2008 from the Faculty of Medicine, Gent University, Belgium. She was awarded a doctoral scholarship from Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC). Her Ph.D study was part of the National Study of Palestinian Health Behaviors in School-aged Children (HBSC-2004). From 2011-2012, Haleama was a Fulbright Senior Visiting Scholar and did Post-Doctoral studies in Public Health and Nutrition at Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Center, Tufts University, Boston, USA. From 2009 to 2013, she served as director of Public Health Department, Faculty of Medicine, An-Najah University, Palestine. Dr. Al Sabbah has published numerous articles in scientific journals and served as an editorial board member and reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. She has participated in many conferences, courses and research studies all over the world, including Europe, USA, Canada, West Africa and some Arab countries.

Dr. Ahmad Hussen Tareq is pharmacist and scientist who did extensive work in peptide engineering and its application in drug development and nutrition sciences. After completing his Ph.D. from NTU, Singapore, He has been extensively involved with the deep tech startup ecosystem of Singapore. Recently he is building his own startup focused on developing optimized nutritional care and behavior compliance for diabetics.
