Diabetes is a prevalent
chronic condition that places high demands on the individual's immune system. Diabetes
is classified into three types: type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational
diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is caused by the auto-immune loss of the
pancreas' insulin-producing beta cells. Auto-antibody testing and the C-peptide
test can distinguish type 1 diabetes from type 2 diabetes. Diabetes type 1
accounts for 10% of all diabetic patients. Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is a
metabolic condition characterised by insulin resistance and a lack of insulin.
